This striking mixed media work by Chilean-born, Sausalito-based artist Paula Valenzuela draws the eye into a world of organic forms and layered complexity. Two bold, rounded shapes emerge from a soft cream ground — their interiors dense with collaged fragments, gestural marks and a moody palette of sage, slate and charcoal punctuated by a vivid flash of red at the base. There is something botanical and something geological about this piece, as if cross-sections of living matter had been lifted and held up to the light.
